EYE TESTS

Get the care you deserve with a comprehensive eye exam that's not on the clock.

Eye care is a top priority at Optique Barangaroo. Our examinations are thorough and meticulous employing the newest cutting edge technology.

Hi-resolution digital retinal imaging (DRI) is standard procedure in our eye examinations. These images are crucial for diagnosing and monitoring a range of health issues including macular degeneration and glaucoma.

We also perform 3D Optical Coherance Tomography (OCT) scans and visual field tests as required.

Early detection of eye disease can prevent blindness in the long term. The OCT produces detailed 3D images of your eye and can detect a range of conditions years before they become a serious threat to your sight and general health. The visual field equipment can detect dysfunction in your central and peripheral vision which may be caused by various medical conditions such as glaucoma, stroke, pituitary disease, brain tumours and other neurological problems.

Dry eye disease (DED) occurs when your eyes don't make enough tears, or the tears evaporate too quickly. It is a condition which is becoming increasingly common due to allergies and lifestyle changes where we spend more time in front of screens or under flourescent lighting. We can help with a number of therapies to treat and alleviate the symptoms including a Blephasteam. This is an extremely effective device which delivers moist heat to enhance tear quality.

EYE HEALTH INFORMATION

Summer is approaching so keep your sunglasses on ..

We're heading into the warmer months and you'll probably be spending more time outdoors, around the pool or at the beach. At this time of the year it's important to wear UV protective sunglasses when you're out and about. Clouds don't block all harmful UV rays so your eyes are at risk even if it doesn't feel like a sunny day.

Our sunglasses provide the strongest possible protection against damaging UV rays. The lenses are treated with a special coating preventing the rays penetrating from both the front and back of the lens. In fact all our lenses offer the same level of protection.

Keep your dry eye at bay

COVID has changed the way we live and work. It may mean you're spending more time indoors in a closed air conditioned environment staring at a computer screen for hours on end. We blink four times less when we're in front of a computer screen so dry eye could become a problem.

Masks are important tools for keeping COVID at bay. Unfortunately they may also cause dry eye problems to surface as our eyes lose moisture more quickly than normal.

Drink plenty of water and stay hydrated. Consider using a humidifier at home if necessary. You may notice that your ongoing dry eye treatments such as heat, massage or eye drops will need to be carried out more frequently.

Allergies

During these months eye health issues such as allergic conjunctivitis can flare up. So it is very important to visit your eye specialist if you have any symptoms.

Contact lenses

Try to give your eyes as many breaks from contact lenses as possible. Switch to your glasses when you get home if you've been in the office all day and think about giving your eyes a full day’s rest from contacts once a week.

Wearing glasses can sometimes interfere with your lifestyle, particularly when you play sport. Or you may feel more confident without glasses. Contact lenses are the convenient and safe option. Our optometrists are contact lens fitting specialists who can tailor a solution for your eyes.
